About this object

A picture frame containing images of both Mr and Mrs Andrew Young. In addition to the portraits a small photo of them on the 60th wedding anniversary compliments the paintings.

Information about Mr Young:

As an old man, Andrew Young would sit in his favourite chair in the open and tell his grandsons some of his experiences when at sea in the sailing ship.

As a cabin boy to the captain he always had to be on hand to clean, fill and light the captains pipe.

Woe betide young Andrew if the pipe was not drawing a stem full of good sweet smoke every time the captain roared "Pipe! Boy!"

At the end of each tale Andrew would give a chuckle, knock the ashes out of his own pipe and warn the boys, "Never smoke. Take advise from one how knows, never touch tobacco, it takes years off your life!"

Andrew Young lived for 98 years!
