Chinese ginger jar, herbs and spices
About this objectMost likely brought to the Otago region with the Chinese miners who settled in the area. These jars originally known as 'Guan' were known as 'Ginger Jars' to the western world. They were used to store herbs and spices.

Inscription and MarksA scene is painted around the side of the jar and would have been done prior to glazing. The base has four Chinese characters, meaning is not known.
