About this object

This photograph of Ken Robertson at the Trentham Radio Training School. Ken later worked at the Awarua Post Office.

A Recollection of the Trentham Training School from Paul McKay:

The trainees were housed in the old army barracks at Trentham, where they lived for between five to six months. The trainees were feed at the school via an onsite cookhouse which was operated by the Post Office. In 1953, the food that came out of this kitchen was considered no good.

When trainees went into the school, they had to be able to send and receiver Morse code at 12 words a minute and after the five month training they qualified at 22 words a minute.
