Telephone, Ericsson Tinbox; Ericsson; 1907?; ZLB.4839

Name/Title

Telephone, Ericsson Tinbox

About this object

This is a Swedish Ericsson 'Tinbox' magneto desk phone. The 'Tinbox' replaced the earlier 'Skeletal Type' Ericsson desk phone which had exposed parts making the phone prone to damage and wear. By enclosing the parts in the 'Tinbox' model, the phone was less prone to damage and required a lower standard of finish. While the box style was not as attractive as the earlier Ericsson models, Ericsson made up for this with the elaborate transfers and the decorative technique known as decalcomania.
