About this object

WWI Commemoration knitted wall hanging donated by the Cromwell Woolcrafters Group to the RSA in commemoration of WW1. Made of knitted wool with a flannelette backing and hung on a wooden dowel. The verse reads " "For freedom and for Empire we all must do our bit. The men go forth to battle. The women sit and knit", decorated with red woolen poppies. The hanging reflects the appeal by Lady Liverpool wife of NZ Governor in August 1914. See more in General Notes below.
