Watch chain and gold nugget

About this object

Gold watch chain and gold nugget. This was donated in September 2003 and it has been noted in the correspondence that it is never to be removed by anyone (family or others) from the custody of the Cromwell Museum. Gold nugget probably found in the Kawarau Gorge at some time as Leslie's father Richard mined there with his father between 1890 and 1900. The chain and nugget was owned by Richard Redhead who was reared in the settlement of Kawarau Gorge, who later farmed at Lowburn for 28 years before his death in 1945. This is donated by his son Leslie who also farmed in the Lowburn Valley for a further 18 years and then shifted to Timaru. (Earlier documentation in 'Accession Forms' folder.)
