Vintage post office scales
About this object
The pendulum mechanism is mounted on an upright pillar with the weight and pan on the right hand side so that the pendulum swings to the left. There is a counter weight on the arm of the pendulum. A cord runs from the top of the mechanism down through the pillar. The scale is on the left and curves up in an arc and the pendulum needle follows this when an item is weighed. The scale is from 0 to 250 grams and is made of a white material with black markings. The weighing pan hangs from one of two hooks. The base of the scale is heart shaped and has a levelling screw so that the scale is accurate.
The scale is in a case made of wood with glass sides and top. The front slides up and out. It can be stopped in three stages before coming out. There is a metal catch to hold the front in place.
