1914 Stewart 1 Ton truckAbout this object
Model: 1 Ton
Engine Make: Stewart
Engine Type: 2 Cylinder Horizontal Opposed Transverse
This is the only known survivor of this make. It is thought production only lasted one year. This company is not related to the much better known Stewart Motor Corporation of Buffalo, New York.
It was bought new by J. B. C. Watt of Gore, who used it on his farm. Its longest journey is thought to be from his property at Waipounamu to Dunedin for a load of cased kerosene. Bill Richardson bought the truck from Mr Watt’s grandson James Watt of Wendonside in 1999.
