Bedspread
About this object
Bedspread; a white cotton, hand crocheted bedspread. The centre pattern shows a bird resting on a vine. This bedspread originally belonged to Maria Rollinson (nee Nuttall) who immigrated to Otago from England in 1874, sailing out on the 'Janet Court'.
Mrs Rollinson lived for a time at Mullocky Gully in the Taieri Gorge and regularly visited Mataura to see her daughter, Mrs Esther Webb who lived in Kana Street. The bedspread passed down the maternal side of the family and was donated to us by Mrs Rollinson's, great-granddaughter, Mrs Shirley Hesselin. Mrs Hesselin tells us that Mrs Rollinson crocheted the bedspread.
