Photograph [Men and Boys outside Mataura Post Office]About this object
A black and white photograph of men and boys outside the Mataura Post Office & Telegraph building. Several bicycles are leaning up against the building. The group of men to the left are likely Post Office employees, and the bicycles used for deliveries.
This particular Post Office is known as 'No. 2', as this public service building has gone through several metamorphoses since the first purpose-build building opened in 1872. 'No. 2' was erected on Bridge Street, near the railway lines, in 1877, and was used until the postal service grew too large for the building; so ended the building's life as a Post Office in 1915.
We would love to be able to identify any of the people in this photograph.
