Labels, Two baggage labels returning the kit of Lieutenant Thomas Quilter after his death during W.W.II

About this object

Label; two baggage labels from the British War Department returning the kit of Lieutenant Thomas George Quilter to his widow in Mataura, New Zealand. Thomas died in Algeria on 20 February 1943 while deployed as a bomb disposal officer with the Royal Engineers during Operation Torch.

For us these simple labels resonate loudly, leaving us wondering how Thomas' wife Clara must have felt when she received Thomas' belongings. Here is a link to Thomas' life story including the wife and child he left behind.
