About this object

Letter; [11 of 25]. Seven page letter dated 9 August 1941 from Thomas George Quilter to his wife Clara Catherine Quilter. Thomas died on 20 February 1943 while serving with the Royal Engineers in Algeria during Operation Torch.

Here is a link to Thomas' life story including the wife and child he left behind.

We also have four letters that Clara wrote to Thomas during the war. They were returned with his personal effects. Their correspondence provides a personal insight into the effect of World War Two on a local family. We haven't put Thomas' letters on-line because of their sheer volume but they are available to researchers on request.
