About this object

Tea cloth ;Square white cotton with Mount Malloc style of white embroidery of butterflies and spring flowers. It has a crocheted inset right round it. It was made by Miss Elizabeth (Bessie) McGowan. Bessie McGowan was one of 6 daughters of Mr. and Mrs. Daniel McGowan of Gowan Brae, Mataura. Because of ill health, needlework was her life's interest, and she was encouraged by her family to enter her work in many different shows. In 1926 she won the silver cup for the most talented needle worker at the Dunedin Exhibition. Bessie died in 1927, aged 46.
