About this objectCrocheted edging made from ecru cotton. It is triangular in shape with circular patterns. It was crocheted by Miss Bessie McGowan. Bessie Mc Gowan was one of 6 daughters of Mr. and Mrs. Daniel McGowan of Gowan Brae, Mataura. Because of ill health, needlework was her life's interest, and she was encouraged by her family to enter her work in many different shows. In 1926 she won the silver cup for the most talented needle worker at the Dunedin Exhibition. Bessie died in 1927, aged 46.
