Doilies
About this object
Doilies: two round doilies crocheted by Miss Elizabeth (Bessie) McGowan. Bessie was one of six daughters of Mr. and Mrs. Daniel McGowan who farmed Gowan Brae, Mataura. Because of ill health, needlework was her life's interest and she was encouraged by her family to enter her work in many different shows. In 1926 she won the silver cup for the most talented needle worker at the New Zealand and South Seas International Exhibition in Dunedin. Bessie died in 1927, aged 46.
This is one of 16 examples we have in our Collection of Bessie's needlework.
