About this object
Photograph; 40 of 47 from the McConnell Album. A compilation of 7 photographs taken in 1925 of the Mataura Freezing Works. An exterior panoramic photograph is on top of 6 interior scenes including the beef board, mutton and lamb slaughtering board, the cooling chamber, the power house, part of the electrical department and dressed lamb carcasses to be sent to London for exhibition. The Southland Frozen Meat and Produce Export Company owned the Works up until 1989 when it was sold to the Alliance Group Limited.
The Album was commissioned by Charles McConnell, the then mayor of the Mataura Borough Council. It is now in the Gore Historical Society's collection and is held at the Gore Museum.
