Photograph [20 of 47, McConnell Album]About this object
Photograph; 20 of 47 from the McConnell Album. This photograph was taken in 1925 and shows the Mataura River flowing over the Mataura Falls (Te Au Nui). The weir on the left diverted water to the Mataura Freezing Works and the weir on the right diverted water to the Paper Mill. The central column of rock has since been blasted down to a much lower level.
The Album was commissioned by Charles McConnell, the then mayor of the Mataura Borough Council. It is now in the Gore Historical Society's collection and is held at the Gore Museum.
