White and red shoulder Badges are printed 'MATAURA'.
Right pocket badge is printed 'LOWER MATAURA/SOUTHLAND' above and below an image of a trout.
Left pocket badge bears the scout emblem.
A white label on the inside neck reads:
'MADE IN NEW ZEALAND / ESPECIALLY FOR THE / EQUIPMENT BRANCH / SCOUT ASSOCIATION OF NEW ZEALAND'.
A white sizing label on the inside neck reads: 'MB'.

NZ Scout Association - 'Lower Mataura' Scout District badge. District was established in 1960 and was previously part of Eastern Southland District. Badge was designed by Mrs Wilson and was in use before Sep1963. The first issue lacked the 'Southland' area name, it was added to later issues. The district was re-registered in June 1998 when it absorbed two groups from Longford, the badge was redesigned to include the Mataura River, and the Hokonui Hills from the Longford badge.
