Invoice for coal from Mataura Mine. E.& E.S. Moseby. 23 Feb 1949. Filled out in pencil, 4 boxes of lignite, cost 2 pounds and sixpence, and receipted also in pencil on same date on the invoice.
Ted Moseby purchased the mine from C.E.Rowe and Son, called the 'Boghead Pit' which was located between Dunn's road and Winton turnoff, the west boundary of Young's, [formerly McAllisters'] farm. It was an underground mine but this was soon discontinued and concentrated on being an opencast mine. Ted Moseby was a miner, who emigrated from County Durham. He worked in mines at Nightcaps from 1926 to 1943. He sold the mine to Southland Frozen Meat in 1956.
