Te Awamutu Museum
Come and explore Waipa’s rich social history at the Te Awamutu Museum. Our collection is made up of artefacts that tell the stories of the Waipa District.
At the heart of our collections are taonga Maori and Pasifika artefacts, as well as heritage material related to Waipa’s colonial period and the New Zealand Wars. The Museum archives contain examples of our documentary heritage, including historic photographs, maps, whakapapa and family histories.
Our Tangata Whenua gallery displays taonga of the Tainui people who settled in the area with video stories of Uenuku. We have activity trails throughout the museum and Wahi Akoranga (The Learning Place) is where you can find colouring pages, jigsaws and other hands on activities for kids of all ages.
Te Awamutu Museum also houses a substantial archive on local history available to researchers.
