Plate, 1906 Otautau Flood

About this object

This 1906 coloured photograph displayed behind a glass convex dish shows the township of Otautau inundated with floodwaters. Situated close to the Aparima River, and with the Otautau Creek running through part of it, the town was constantly at threat from high river levels.

With the increase in travel and leisure time photographs of small New Zealand settlements and events, including disasters, were popular images on commemorative and souvenir objects like this one.
