Furnace at No. 2 The Terrace, 1989

Furnace at No. 2 The Terrace, 1989

About this object

There were two furnaces on the top of the Reserve Bank building at No.2 The Terrace that were used to destroy withdrawn banknotes and to burn old records and waste paper. They were used from 1972 when the building opened until February 1989 when the furnaces were dismantled.
This photo shows the front entrance to the furnace. The pulley raised or lowered the furnace door.
