About this object

The Reserve Bank built premises on Queen Street in Upper Hutt in 1942 and carried out note office operations there until the building was sold in 1972.
The premises also sported furnaces for destroying withdrawn banknotes.
The building was subsequently demolished.
This photo shows Note Office staff hard at work shortly after the building opened in 1942.
