About this object

Colour postcard entitled "The Wharves, Timaru, N.Z. 4619", taken January 1938.

The view of the Timaru harbour looks south-easterly towards the No.2 wharf at Timaru Harbour from the Bay Hill. The vessel Benarty is moored at No.2 (South) and the Naumburg at No.1 (North). A number of covered railway wagons appear on the wharf in front of the Strathallan Hall, situated at the foot of No.2 wharf.

The rear of the postcard bears a personal message from 'Edie' to her sister at 16 Elizabeth Street, Timaru, dated '5/4/40.' The 1940 Wises directory lists 16 Elizabeth Street as a boardinghouse, owned by Mrs Margaret Hooper.

Verso also bears "4619 Tanner Bros Ltd. Maoriland Photographic Series".
