About this object

A large china teapot, with Shakespearian motifs from the wreck of the sailing ship LASTINGHAM [wrecked in1884] recovered by Roger Meecham. No lid, broken spout. There are numerous marine accretions on the teapot, including worm casings and oyster shells which have been painted with varnish. When it was salvaged, the teapot contained five thimbles, a copper conical bell, eight Victorian copper coins and a pocket watch with a short chain attached. There are also shells and sand on the pot which appear to have been glued on.
