About this object

Found in a garden on the Strand and it was plain to see that the ring, to which the chain was attached, had been filed through. Convicts is a loose term. These balls and chain were often used to secure seamen undergoing punishment at sea.

The ball is interesting but the chain is electrically welded. You should at least find a blacksmith made chain.
