White china, 12cm tall, vase shape. Part of a "bedroom set". These sets comprised water jug and wash hand basin on the wash stand (in the days when bathrooms were not found in every home), and two chamber pots on the shelf below. Flanking jug and basin were soap dish with lid, hair-tidy (where hair combings were put, candlesticks, toothbrush holder, ring tree (where engagement and dress rings could be hung while hands were being washed), hairpin box and, in front, a long narrow tray to hold brush and comb. Sometimes, some of these things were on the dressing table or mantlepiece. The number of pieces and the variety in these sets varied. Very few complete sets now exist.Named Collection
