About this object

"Mosaic, the Art of Margaret Coupe" by Erica Speden. Publ Steele Roberts Publishers, New Zealand in 2009. Margaret Coupe designed the sundial which replaced the surveyors' wooden quadriped trig beacon on Maiki Hill, in celebration of the New Zealand Institute of Surveyors centennial celebrations in 1988. The sundial was constructed by Margaret and her husband Peter Coupe. Page 78 of the book has text by Brett King and 2 photographs of Margaret and Peter constructing the sundial. Page 79 has a photograph of the completed sundial, taken in 1989. Margaret died on October 11th 2006 aged 84. Peter died approximately 2 weeks earlier.
