About this object

Wooden bookmark; carved with intricate geometrical intaglio designs. It is shaped as a slightly curved piece of wood, with paddle-shaped ends, and features a clam shell design on one side. The inscribed text reads 'When This You See / Remember Me /. Ann Harrison. Jan 12th 1832'.

It is unknown who exactly Ann Harrison is and how she is connected to Hurworth, but it is assumed this item was made by a child in the tradition of a sampler. A sampler is produced as a test or demonstration of skill in handicrafts, generally in relation to embroidery.
