About this object

Dessert plate; a ceramic plate featuring a green glaze base with a white centre. There is a central painted design of peonies and other flowers. The plate has a scalloped rim, with a gold and pale yellow flower design with gilt detailing. There is a swirling gilt border at the centre and edge.

This dessert plate is from the original service belonging to Lady Atkinson. Lady Anne Atkinson (née Smith) was Harry Atkinson's cousin, who he married in 1866 following the death of his first wife, Amelia. The couple had three children, Samuel Arnold, Alice Lucy, and Harry Temple Atkinson.
