About this object

Print, Untitled [The late Mrs Cowie, widow of The Late Primate]; black and white print of a photograph featured in a magazine. The print has been mounted on a certificate awarded to Sophia Kerr Taylor in 1893, by the Auckland Poultry, Pigeon, Canary and Dog Association. Mrs Taylor won the first prize for her Pekin Duck. Framed in a gold painted frame.

The Right Reverend W. G. Cowie was Bishop of Auckland and a friend of Allan Kerr Taylor, who was particularly involved in local church matters. He gave land for the Mt Albert Methodist Church and also St Luke's Anglican Church. The more interesting thing about this object is the way Sophia Kerr Taylor hid her achievements and chose to present the image of Mrs Cowie.
