Photograph [Winifred Kerr Taylor]About this object
Photograph; in black and white, of Winifred Kerr Taylor seated on a dark horse outside the main steps of Alberton. The photograph is mounted onto a card backing. '1896' is written on the reverse.
Winifred (Winnie) Kerr Taylor was a noted horsewoman in her youth, most likely good enough to have been a professional had she been born in a later era. In the Victorian period marriage and motherhood were still expected to be a woman's role in life. Her younger sister Muriel, born nearly a generation later, would take advantage of the wider range of sports available to women in the 20th century, playing hockey, tennis and golf.
