Carte de visite, Untitled [Vincent Kerr Taylor]
About this object
Carte de visite; in black and white with hand-coloured tints, printed directly onto card. The photograph depicts a standing Vincent Kerr Taylor as a five year old boy, in 1871, wearing Scottish apparel. 'V F [??] Taylor, 5 years old 1871, Alberton', is written on the reverse in a 19th century hand.
Vincent Kerr Taylor was the eldest son of Allan and Sophia Kerr Taylor. He was educated at Auckland Grammar School and later helped his father run both the Alberton and Kaipara estates. Allan Kerr Taylor, though born in India, was of Scottish descent, which explains Vincent's costume in this photograph. These costumes are still held in the Alberton collection today.
