About this object
This black and white photograph pictures Muriel Hyacinth Kerr Taylor. She is seated on a chair that has been draped with a sheepskin and is wearing a white dress with a scalloped hem.
Muriel was born on 17 January 1887 to Allan and Sophia Kerr Taylor. She lived at Alberton in Mount Albert, Auckland, with her three sisters, Winifred, Muriel, and Violet, and her four brothers Vincent, Hector, Lancelot and Theodore.
During her childhood, Muriel attended Mount Albert School and played a variety of sports including hockey, tennis and golf. She was also very musically talented and often performed concerts with her sisters and mother. Every Sunday she attended services with her family at St. Luke's Church in Mount Albert, as well as Sunday School which was instructed by her mother and older sisters. (1)
