About this object

Box, treasure box; a special feature of this box is the embroidered WW1 card sent back from the war which has been used and placed on the lid of the box. The text reads: " For my Dear Mother".

The "To My Dear Mother" card was sent to Grandma Switzer by her son, Cyril Switzer during the First World War 1914-1918. It was made into this card box many, many years later by Nana Dawson.

Using pre-used materials. this box is made out of mainly floral- patterned greeting cards that have been plastic coated.

The box is hexagonal in shape, each piece has a line of holes, and is joined with a band of crochet. The box has an opening at the top and the lid has no fastening.

Inside the box, there is another piece of this WW1 card which is a small oval shape, the text on it reads "For Home and Country".

The inside lid and base of the container are made from plastic coated pieces of wallpaper, not card.
