Album: Sir Robert Kerridge
About this objectPersonal scrapbook compiled by Sir Robert James Kerridge, businessman, entrepreneur and theatre proprietor. Sir Robert James Kerridge began purchasing theatres in 1926 and went on to own one of the largest theatre chains in New Zealand, ‘Kerridge Odeon’. This album contains newspaper clippings, photographs and ephemera that provide a valuable insight into the technical and social aspects of New Zealand theatres and cinema-going between 1920-1940. Press and publicity clippings detail the leasing, licensing and construction of regional theatres, the introduction of ‘talkies’ and sound to New Zealand theatres as well as highlighting Kerridge’s entrepreneurial efforts outside of the film industry (mini-golf, ice skating rink, motoring, ‘Kerridge Commercial College’). Photographs depict billboards and film advertising efforts, revealing the lengths theatre managers went to to draw people into regional theatres. Film programmes adhered to the album also reflect the early American and English feature film titles that were on offer to the New Zealand cinema-going public at the time.

Hello - I would like to include some photos from this collection in a publication - the Cameo Theatre in Auckland particularly.
How should I go about making this request?
Regards,
Matt
Hi Brianna, the album isn't for sale. It's a very important part of our documentation collection.
