About this object

A hand-coloured portrait of Catherine Officer (neé McDonald), wife of Charles Officer. Catherine was born in Invercargill in 1866. She married Charles on 10 August 1898 in Wallacetown, Southland. They farmed in the Gropers Bush/Thornbury districts and had six children. Catherine died on 22 August 1930 in Riverton, Southland, at the age of 64. Charles died two years earlier on 9 June 1928 in Thornbury, Southland, aged 85.

Inscription and Marks

On a printed label glued to the front: 'Mrs Charles OFFICER CATHERINE nee McDonald'. Handwritten on the reverse in biro, on the wood and partially obscured by tape: 'From Gordon Officer Aparima'. Handwritten on the reverse: '96/95/89'. Handwritten on the reverse and on a yellow sticker adjacent: '97/1'.
