About this object

Singer, dancer, poet, conversationalist, Neo-Expressionist Alan Pearson was born in Liverpool in 1929. He traveled for great deal of his life, spending time in Canada and Australia working a variation of jobs. In 1955, he set himself up in New Zealand, and studied at the Canterbury Art School and Auckland Teachers' Training College. Pearson was vitally concerned with the metaphysical and intangible, articulating dense concepts about the human condition -- passions, fears, and emotions in his works. He also used his art to explore the social changes of his lifetime, with the constant motivation of a fresh perception of the human psyche. This was intensified later in life when he was diagnosed with macular degeneration.
