Mr E G Cousins
This portrait was a gift to the New Zealand Portrait Gallery from Wellington High School.
Frederick Vincent Ellis was an artist and art teacher. He was born in Halifax, England in 1892, and studied at the Royal College of Art in South Kensington, London. His studied were interrupted during the First World War as he served in the army for four years. In the 1920's Ellis moved to New Zealand, teaching at Dunedin School of Art, and later Wellington Technical College. His interests were stained glass and portraiture.
