Ernest Rutherford; Dick Frizzell; 2013; 2013.001
Ernest Rutherford
About this objectThe man whose face graces banknotes we would like to see more often was knighted the year that the war broke out. Six years earlier he had won the Nobel Prize in Chemistry, not bad for someone who had flunked teaching school in Christchurch. We remember Lord Rutherford as 'the father of the atom.' His ashes are in Westminster Abbey and had many institutions and places (including a crater on each the Moon and Mars) bear his name.
