This ball was made by New Zealand and Australian soldiers in a Prisoner of War camp in Northern Italy in WWII. It is made from the string off Red Cross parcels delivered to the camp.

A silver plaque on the wooden base reads: "This substitute cricket ball was made and used by New Zealand and Australian Prisoners Of War, POW Camp 57, Udine, Northern Italy, 1942"
