Name/Title

Cricket Ball; signed by Vernon Philander (South Africa)

About this object

When South Africa trained at Wellington's Basin Reserve ahead of their 2015 Cricket World Cup match against the United Arab Emirates at Westpac Stadium, they spent some time practicing on the main wicket. Most of their practice was focused on clearing the ropes, which was of limited success until Vernon Philander stepped up.

More renowned for his bowling, Philander middled this practice ball and sent it high into the sky, and straight down through one of the New Zealand Cricket Museum's windows.

By way of an apology, South African management got Vernon to sign the ball and gave it to the Museum.
