About this object
John Macintosh Roberts came to Cambridge together with his uncle, Captain William Clare, having enlisted with the 3rd Waikato Militia. He then joined the Armed Constabulary and fought alongside Von Tempsky, rising to the rank of Inspector. It was for his courage and leadership that he was awarded the New Zealand Cross, which was presented to him by Major Lyon at Cambridge on Tuesday, 25 July 1876.
