Military uniform, Wellington Infantry Regiment, WWI. Jacket, puttees and "lemon squeezer" hat.

AP: Tunic of olive green wool twill. Two piece front, fastening left over right with five buttons from neck to waist. Leather tab at centre front neck to protect hooks & eye fastenings from wearer (and vice versa). Three piece back with curving seams from underarm/armseye to hem; two vents at bottom of these seams. Sleeves lined with brown cotton twill. Side seams covered in same. Centre back neck covered with dark brown sateen; fabric here is stamped "2S". Body unlined. Shoulder seam allowances are raw edged.
Four flap pockets at front—left and right chest and hip. Khaki cotton twill hip pocket linings stamped “NZ Defence” with upward pointing arrow between “N” and “Z”. Epaulet flaps with button fastenings at shoulder. Brass hooks at waist for attachment of belt (not acquired).
All buttons have four stars at centre and "NEW ZEALAND FORCES" around the edge. Reverse of buttons stamped VAN STAVEREN/ WELLINGTON; others "STOKES & SONS / MELBOURNE" and "J.R. GAUNT (? somewhat difficult to read due to corrosion)/ LONDON".
Insignia-cloth: on PR sleeve, chevron with double blue stripe (wound stripes); four holes at upper arm from prev. attached insignia, now absent. At CB, just below collar: black square with central yellow stripe. Insignia-metal: "NZR" and right and left shoulder; lion stamped "ACER IN ARMIS" at right and left lapel.
"Lemon squeezer" hat is made of olive green-khaki felt (presumed to be wool felt, fibres not identified). Conical pleated crown divided into four sections, with wide flat brim. Eyelet holes in crown for ventilation. Khaki and red knit wool pugaree band around base of crown, lined with buckram type stiff interfacing. 3 slits at front of crown, possibly for attachment of insignia. Unlined. Leather hat band on inside stamped "Vero Everitt Ltd/ Army Contractors/ Atherstone/ 1917"
Pen inscription "J.H. Christie"

Hi,
It is more likely that the jacket was made from a serge fabric than a twill and the two blue chervons on the lower sleeve indicate two years overseas service and are not wound stripes.
The insignia at the back of the collar indicates 1st Battalion Wellington Regiment and is from the 1917-1918 period. The collar badges are from the 7th Company of the Wellington Infantry Regiment.
