About this object

Pamphlet; 'He Katikihama' ['Catechism'], published at Mangungu on the Wesleyan Mission Press. The three sheets (twelve pages in total) are questions and answers on the scriptures [a catechism] all printed in te reo Māori.

The Mission Press at Mangungu printed religious literature in te reo Māori out of a desire to bring 'the printed gospel to the Maoris'.(1) Along with pamphlets and newsletters such as this one, the Mission Press also printed Hobbs translation of the book of Job and an edition of 6,000 copies of 'Translations from the Old Testament'.
