The National Mortgage & Agency Co of NZ was formed in 1864 and owned a nationwide stock and station agency business. In 1972, Wright Stephenson & Co, later PGG Wrightsons, took over the company.
The National Mortgage & Agency Company's Wyndham store and office was situated on Balaclava Street opposite the doctors surgery. The firm was established at this site a few years before the First World War and became a Wright Stephenson store in the 1970s during the merger.
