Postcard, Sir Harry Lauder and Donald McDonald
About this object
This postcard shows Sir Harry Lauder and Donald McDonald duck shooting at 'Weka Bush' Menzies Ferry, home of Robert McCallum former manager at the Edendale Estate.
Sir Harry Lauder was an internationally renowned Scottish singer and entertainer who first came to New Zealand in 1914. He was a keen fisherman and would take every opportunity to pursue his hobby wherever he was performing in the world.
He came to hear of the excellent fishing to be had at Wyndham from his friend Donald McDonald who promised to show him all the best spots. He had a six week fishing holiday in New Zealand in April 1925 and was probably on a similar trip when this picture was taken in 1924.
