Postcard, Munro's Bush, Mimihau River, Wyndham
About this object
This is a photographic postcard of Munro's Bush on the Mimihau River. This part of the river was a scenic picnic spot in the early days of the Mimihau District. The area was named after Henry McKenzie Munro from Fortrose, Ross- Shire, Scotland who took up land in 1868 on the Mokoreta Hundred, later called Mimihau. In 1908 he moved from his farm to Munro's Bush and built his home on the south side of the river on Sec 22, BLK V of the Tuturau Survey District. This land passed to his son John A. Munro and was then sold to Harry Allan, before being purchased by the Humphries family of 'Malton' in 1919.
The section of bush on the north side of the Mimihau River, Section 36, BLK V, of the Tuturau Survey District, is unique as it has never been milled. It was jointly owned by Henry Munro and Andrew Noble in 1874. The north eastern part of this property passed to Henry's son John in 1915, then to Frank Diack in 1937, who sold it to John McMillan senior in 1940. His son, Sandy McMillan, gifted the land to the Crown. In 1985 it was gazetted as a reserve to be known as 'Munro Bush Scenic Reserve.'
