Name/Title

Lantern Slides, Sutherland's Edendale Hosiery

About this object

This is a glass lantern slide which was used to create 'Prestige' hosiery advertising for Sutherland's store in Edendale. Around 1940 General Merchant George Gordon (G.G.) Sutherland purchased Matherson's Ltd on the corner of Ferry and Seaward Roads in Edendale and John McGlinchy's store in Wyndham. He operated these as Sutherland's Stores until 1946 when he sold out to J. Rattray & Sons Ltd.

We imagine that this slide was produced to be shown on a projector at the cinema.
