About this object

This photograph is of Elizabeth Mclean (also known as Eliza). Elizabeth was appointed head teacher of the recently opened Seaward Downs School on 26 October 1891. Here she taught a group of about 19 pupils. In 1893 Elizabeth successfully passed Class D of her teaching exams. However, during 1900 Elizabeth was forced to retire on account of her ill health.
